Radios for public safety teams

When separate teams cannot hear each other, an incident takes longer to handle than it should. Separate groups let one incident channel be opened across the devices already on scene.

One incident channel

The control room puts the units handling an incident into one talk group from the console, and the change reaches their radios over the air.

The nearest unit on the map

Every radio reports its GPS position to Dispatcher, so the control room can send whoever is closest.

Video from the scene

The I-10 body worn camera streams live audio and video back to the control room, and it is a push-to-talk radio too.

Coverage without masts

Radios use the mobile network, so coverage follows the network across a CBD or a whole metro, with no repeater sites to build.

Talking to the control room

Dispatcher has push-to-talk built into the console, so a controller speaks to any group from the desk with the mouse or the space bar.

Track playback shows where a unit has been, which helps when a report has to say who was where.

Case study

Cape Town CCID

The Central City Improvement District's Public Safety Officers run city-wide on Inrico T522A radios over the mobile network. The CCID now acts as first responder for incidents in the CBD.

Questions we get asked

Can different teams share a channel during an incident?

Yes. Talk groups are built and changed in Dispatcher, so a dispatcher can bring units from different teams into one group, and the change reaches the radios over the air.

Can the control room talk to the radios?

Yes. Dispatcher has push-to-talk from the console, as long as the dispatcher has been added to the group.

Are the radios legal to use in South Africa?

Yes. The models we stock carry ICASA type approval, and each certificate is linked from its product page and listed in the Support centre.
